UN Security Council would move to convene an ad hoc meeting to discuss Cambodia-Thailand issues based on Cambodia’s request for its intervention by Jul 28, Thai representative to UN told the National News Bureau of Thailand today (See also The Earth Times, 23 Jul 08). The meeting would start tomorrow with 15 key member nations attending to determine whether or not the Security Council should fulfill Cambodia’s request.
After the meeting yesterday (More about the meeting on Channel News Asia, 23 Jul 08), ASEAN, whose current chairman is Goerge Yeo of Singapore, decided not to get involved and encouraged to the two nations to resolve their conflict peacefully on their own (Bangkok Post, 23 Jul 08).
Meanwhile, CNN has reported that the number of troops has jumped to 3,000 on both sides.

Accusing his counterpart Hun Sen of using the border row as a vote-winner (AFP, 23 Jul 08), Thai PM Samak Sundaravej said there would be no more responses from Thailand until after the general elections, according to Xinhua (No more response to Cambodia…, 23 Jul 08).
Meanwhile Xinhua reported Thailand has reaffirmed the UN Security Council that it wished to resolve the border spat with Cambodia bilaterally by pacific means, (Thailand reaffirms bilateral stance…, 23 Jul 08). It requested that UN stayed out of this. No response has been made by the UN Security Council. The meeting tomorrow would go as planned.
