“Shake Girl” a “graphic novel” re Tat Marina’s True Story

The graphic novel “Shake Girl” produced by 14 Stanford students really has opened my eyes to the chains of life events of a former Cambodian karaoke performer before she was attacked with acid and severely burnt over 45% of her body.

In the comic form of novel, not only was it visually easy and interesting to read; it took me just around one hour to finish.

The novel is for now only available in electronic format at shakegirl.stanford.edu. The printed copy of it will be obtainable “as of mid-may,” according to Eric Pape, one of the co-authors of the novel who was working as a journalist for The Phnom Penh Post before he joined the Graphic Novel course out of which “Shake Girl” has been published.

The course, under Tom Kealey and Adam Johnson, is eminently practical, being more than just about learning but about putting their lessons into reality. The students’ achievements something one is very proud of. This is called learning and not just studying for the sake of studying.

Also interestingly, their “Shake Girl” outcome was reported by a newspaper.
