Snapshot

  • Role: Learning tech and enablement advisor (VR platform evaluation, adoption planning, partner readiness)
  • Client: National Association for Media Arts Education (NAMAE)
  • Work type: VR tool and platform exploration for school partners (selection support)
  • Primary outcomes: clear comparison method, shortlist, and pilot-ready adoption plan
  • Scope note: I did not design or build a VR platform. I supported platform discovery, evaluation, and partner enablement planning.

Best for

  • Best for: Learner Engagement and Learning Tech

Context

NAMAE is building partnerships across media arts stakeholders, explicitly including domains like gaming and VR, and aims to support media arts education with resources and systems for educators and students.

The problem

School partners trying to adopt VR for media arts run into predictable friction:

  • too many VR options with unclear best-fit by grade band and constraints
  • hidden requirements (hardware, accounts, classroom management)
  • teacher training time is underestimated
  • adoption fails when there’s no pilot plan, support model, and success criteria

Goals

  1. Map the VR platform landscape relevant to media arts teaching and student creation
  2. Build a partner-ready scorecard schools can use repeatedly
  3. Produce a shortlist by partner readiness (start simple, scale complexity)
  4. Provide a pilot plan that prioritizes teacher success and classroom feasibility

What I did

1) Defined selection criteria grounded in classroom reality

Created a practical evaluation scorecard across:

  • hardware and device model (shared headsets vs 1:1)
  • classroom management and teacher control
  • creation workflow (student-built experiences vs curated content)
  • sharing/publishing and review process
  • safety, privacy, account and permissions setup
  • training load and available teaching resources

2) Scanned VR platform categories and representative options

Built comparison buckets with examples schools frequently consider:

A. K–12 classroom VR systems (hardware + management + content)

  • ClassVR positions itself as an all-in-one education solution including classroom and device management via its portal.

B. No-code VR creation platforms (teacher and student creation)

  • Zoe markets a no-code, drag-and-drop approach for teachers and students, and notes Quest headset compatibility for schools.
  • ThingLink positions itself as no-code XR and 360 experience creation and deployment across devices.
  • Delightex Edu (formerly CoSpaces Edu) positions itself as an education platform where students can build 3D creations and explore them in VR/AR.

C. Advanced creation engines (high ceiling, higher training load)

  • Unreal Engine provides education lesson plans (example: “virtual history museum”) that can support advanced immersive project work when a school is ready for deeper production workflows.

3) Produced a shortlist and pilot plan for school partners

  • Recommended a small “start here” shortlist based on partner readiness and constraints
  • Defined a pilot flow: teacher onboarding, sample projects, success metrics, support rhythm, and a go/no-go decision point
  • Included a lightweight change enablement plan: who owns setup, who supports teachers, and how issues are captured and resolved

Deliverables

  • VR platform evaluation scorecard (criteria + weighting)
  • Comparison matrix and shortlist by school readiness tier
  • Pilot plan template (timeline, roles, success metrics, support plan)
  • Partner enablement outline (teacher onboarding, job aids, troubleshooting checklist)

Results (high level)

  • Enabled NAMAE to compare VR platforms consistently across partner schools and constraints
  • Reduced selection risk by surfacing hardware, management, and training requirements early (before rollout)
  • Produced a pilot-ready adoption plan focused on teacher usability and repeatable classroom execution

Proof (public context)

  • NAMAE partner framing explicitly includes VR-related organizations and emphasizes building systems of support.
  • Platform references used in feasibility comparisons: ClassVR classroom management claims, Zoe no-code + Quest compatibility, ThingLink XR/360 creation, Delightex VR/AR creation, Unreal Engine education lesson plans.

Skills demonstrated

Learning tech evaluation, VR platform landscape mapping, partner enablement planning, pilot design, rubric/scorecard design, stakeholder communication, scope control.
