Context
The “Seth Yerng – Our Rights” app helps Cambodian garment workers learn about labour rights, obligations, and workplace safety through a practical, story-based approach.
The problem
Learning tools can underperform when:
- content is accurate but not clear enough for non-technical audiences
- awareness is low, so adoption stalls
- learners need guided instruction to interpret labour law correctly
- field questions are not captured and fed back into content improvements
Goals
- Improve clarity and usefulness of labour law learning content
- Update/add content based on real factory-context questions
- Support awareness so the tool is understood and actually used
- Deliver app-aligned training so learning transfers into practice
Constraints
- Varied literacy levels and mixed comfort with mobile learning
- Labour law complexity creates risk of misunderstanding without examples
- Training needed to be practical, respectful, and workplace-appropriate
What I did
1) Content advisory and learning design improvements
- Reviewed content for comprehension, structure, and practical applicability
- Recommended improvements to sequencing, definitions, and examples so learning “flows” for non-technical users
2) Revised and expanded app learning content
- Edited and refined wording for clarity and consistency
- Proposed additions/adjustments where gaps were identified
- Kept the content grounded in real workplace scenarios (plain language, practical interpretation)
3) Supported awareness in factories
- Contributed to awareness messaging so factories and workers understood the purpose and how to use the app
- Connected app topics to common workplace questions to make it feel immediately relevant
4) Delivered labour law training aligned to app chapters
- Designed and delivered training sessions based on the app’s modules
- Used the app during sessions so learners could continue self-study after training
- Captured recurring questions and confusion points for reinforcement and future content refinement
Results (high level)
- 30,000 downloads reported for the “Seth Yerng – Our Rights” app (program-level metric, as of Mar 2023).
- ~66,000 workers in 50 factories benefited from trainings linked to the program (program-level metric, not solely attributable to one contributor).
- Improved readiness for adoption through clearer content, targeted awareness support, and app-aligned training reinforcement.
